Buyi June Sixth Festival in Qianxinan
Liuyueliu, the Buyi June Sixth Festival, takes place on the sixth day of the sixth lunar month across Qianxinan Buyi and Miao Autonomous Prefecture in southwestern Guizhou. Villages gather to worship the gods of field, land and mountain ahead of the summer growing season, combining ancestor veneration with communal feasting. Antiphonal folk singing, lusheng pipe music, and dyed glutinous rice mark a day rooted in centuries-old Buyi agrarian custom.
Long before Liuyueliu became a fixture on Guizhou's cultural-tourism calendar, it was a private reckoning within a single mythic family.
