Wuyishan Tea Culture Festival in Wuyishan
Wuyishan's tea festival centres on Da Hong Pao, a celebrated Wuyi rock oolong with Tang-dynasty ceremonial roots, combining a pre-Qingming red-robe tribute ceremony at the ancient tea trees, hands-on gongfu tea demonstrations, and evening performances of Zhang Yimou's Impression Da Hong Pao in a 360-degree rotating outdoor theatre.
A red robe is draped over a small stand of ancient tea trees each spring before Qingming, the culmination of a ceremonial tribute to Da Hong Pao, or Big Red Robe, one of Wuyishan's four famous teas and among the most celebrated oolongs in China, with documented ceremonial roots tracing back to the Tang dynasty.
