Yushu Horse Racing Festival in Yushu
Held each year from around July 25th to August 1st on the high grassland of Yushu, Qinghai, this Tibetan festival gathers thousands of tents into a temporary nomad city for horseback archery, hada-scarf snatching at a gallop, dressage-like horse-dancing, and song and dance performed in traditional Tibetan costume.
A temporary city of thousands of tents rising on the grassland is the first sight that meets visitors to the Yushu Horse Racing Festival, staged annually from around July 25th to August 1st in Yushu, also known by its Tibetan name Jyekundo, a Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Qinghai province often described as the largest Tibetan nomad gathering the province hosts.
