Branding a city around a river's entire civilizational weight is the ambition behind Zhengzhou's Yellow River Culture Month, a September programme built to celebrate the Yellow River as what Chinese tradition calls the nation's Mother River and to position the Henan capital as, in the city's own promotional phrase, the Cradle of China.
