Founded in 1995 alongside Rock al Parque as a pillar of Bogota's free Festivales al Parque programme, Jazz al Parque pairs international jazz figures with emerging Colombian musicians in an annual, free concert series that Idartes credits with developing and consolidating the city's own jazz scene over nearly three decades.

The same 1995 civic cultural policy that produced Rock al Parque also launched Jazz al Parque as one of the founding pillars of Bogota's broader Festivales al Parque programme, a free, city-funded series of genre-specific music festivals run through the Instituto Distrital de las Artes.
