Mono Nunez Festival in Ginebra

Mono Nunez Festival is Colombia's most prestigious competition for Andean acoustic genres, bambuco and pasillo, held each June in the small Valle del Cauca town of Ginebra since 1974. Vocal and instrumental soloists and ensembles are judged by musicologists on technical proficiency and authenticity, and the festival was declared national cultural heritage in 2003.

Mono Nunez Festival began in 1974 as part of a school cultural week at the Immaculate Conception School in Ginebra, a small town in Valle del Cauca, and was formalized as an independent annual competition the following year.
