Caribbean International Theater Festival in Santa Marta
First held in 1989 under director Patricia Moreno, Santa Marta's Festicaribe is widely considered the oldest theatre festival in the Caribbean region, having hosted companies from around 24 countries across its history. Run each late August or early September across the city's theatres and public spaces, it blends formal indoor productions with outdoor public performances in a city better known for beach tourism.
Santa Marta's Festival Internacional de Teatro del Caribe held its first edition in 1989 under the direction of Patricia Moreno, five years before its organising body, the Corporacion Festival Internacional de Teatro del Caribe, was formally registered as a private non-profit with Magdalena department and the Santa Marta Chamber of Commerce in July 1994.
