Cuna de Acordeones Festival in Villanueva, La Guajira, honors the town's standing as home to some of vallenato's most important accordion-playing dynasties, founded in 1979 by folklore students and declared national cultural heritage in 2006. Over four days, accordionists compete across professional, amateur, youth and children's divisions, structuring the event around generational continuity within specific local families.

Cuna de Acordeones Festival began in 1979 when a group of folklore students from Colegio Roque de Alba, including brothers Limedes and Rosendo Romero, gathered at the home of Gloria Socarras de Maestre in Villanueva, La Guajira, and settled on the event's name, which translates roughly as 'Cradle of Accordions,' committing from that founding meeting to promoting and preserving vallenato's folkloric values specifically through the accordion's role in the genre.
