Fiestas Civicas Perez Zeledon in San Isidro de El General
Honouring San Isidro Labrador, patron saint of farmers, in a canton named for jurist and agricultural advocate Pedro Perez Zeledon, San Isidro de El General's festivities run around 15 May with a parade opening into an Agricultural and Livestock Fair showcasing the region's fruits, vegetables, coffee, livestock and poultry. Bull-riding, horse races, traditional dance and concerts round out the programme in this southern Pacific agricultural canton founded in 1931.
San Isidro de El General's civic festivals honour San Isidro Labrador, the patron saint of farmers, in a canton whose own founding in 1931 - with four original districts, Urena, El General, Daniel Flores and Rivas - marked a significant step in the development of Costa Rica's southern Pacific region.
