The story

Dakovo Embroideries in Dakovo

Dakovacki vezovi, held each summer in the Slavonian cathedral town of Djakovo since 1967, centers on a procession of folklore groups, embroidered costumes, Lipizzaner horses and wedding carriages, alongside music and craft displays drawn from villages across the wider Slavonian region. The festival closes on the first weekend of July with its largest single gathering.

Dakovacki vezovi takes its name from the elaborately embroidered folk costumes that give the festival its centerpiece image, and it was founded in 1967, during the international year of tourism, as a showcase for Slavonian folk culture.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Lipizzaner horses from the town's historic stud farm take part directly in the closing procession alongside costumed folklore groups and wedding carriages, tying the festival to Djakovo's specific equestrian heritage in a way few other Croatian folklore festivals can replicate

02

The mystery stays covered

The pairing of a centuries-old horse-breeding tradition with embroidered folk costume and song gives Dakovacki vezovi a combination of agricultural, equestrian and textile heritage that is distinct even among Slavonia's several major folklore gatherings held across the harvest season
