Dalmatian Klapa Festival Omis in Omis
Founded in 1967, the Festival of Dalmatian Klapa in Omis is Croatia's most important gathering for klapa, the a cappella harmony singing recognized by UNESCO in 2012, running performances and competitions across the whole month of July. It draws amateur and professional ensembles from Dalmatia and the diaspora.
The Festival of Dalmatian Klapa in Omis traces its founding to 1967, when organizers first gathered klapa ensembles, five-to-eight voice a cappella groups rooted in medieval church singing and the working songs of Dalmatian fishermen and peasants, into a single annual event in this small town on the Cetina river.
