The Omis Pirate Battle reenacts a 1221 clash between Venice and the Kacic-led Omis pirates who once controlled shipping along the central Adriatic, staged every August 18 in the town's actual harbor. Costumed participants fire period muskets from boats before a pirate parade and street after-party.

The Omis Pirate Battle reenacts a specific historical clash: in 1221, Venice launched what amounted to a crusade against the Omis pirates, a maritime power led by the Kacic family dukes who had spent the twelfth and thirteenth centuries controlling shipping lanes along a stretch of the Adriatic running roughly from Omis to Dubrovnik.
