The story

Pag Lace Festival in Pag

Pag's International Lace Festival celebrates paska cipka, the town's UNESCO-recognized needle lace tradition, over four days each June with workshops, exhibitions and delegations of lacemakers from across Europe, alongside concerts and klapa singing in the historic salt-and-stone town of Pag. Permanent exhibitions at the Pag Lace Gallery and the Benedictine Convent of St. Margaret display historical pieces year-round.

Pag's International Lace Festival grew out of the town's centuries-old tradition of paska cipka, needle lace worked without any preliminary drawing, passed down within families from mother to daughter and inherited alongside the specific techniques and personal variations each lacemaker added to inherited patterns.

The festival centers on a genuinely endangered hands-on craft, needle lace made without a preliminary drawing and passed down within families, rather than a mass-market souvenir trade, with international lacemaking delegations and hands-on workshops aimed specifically at teaching the technique to younger participants rather than just displaying finished pieces to tourists

The city starts moving
