The story

International Folklore Festival Zagreb in Zagreb

Held in Zagreb each year since 1966, the International Folklore Festival brings costumed folk dance and music groups from across Croatia and abroad to the city's central squares, recognized since 2014 as a festival of national significance and linked internationally through CIOFF membership. It continues the lineage of the 1930s Festival of Croatian Village Culture.

Zagreb's International Folklore Festival has run each year since 1966, positioning itself as a continuation of the Festival of Croatian Village Culture organized in the 1930s rather than a wholly new invention.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

The festival is formally affiliated with CIOFF, the global umbrella organization for folklore festivals, giving it a vetted international standing that connects Zagreb's programme directly to a worldwide circuit of similarly recognized folk arts events rather than a purely local dance showcase

02

The mystery stays covered

Groups travel from across Europe, the Americas, Asia and Africa to perform documented regional repertoire, giving a single capital-city programme a genuinely global folkloric scope rarely matched by comparable events in neighboring countries
