Fiesta de la Cubania in Bayamo
Running since 1994 at the proposal of Culture Minister Armando Hart Davalos, Bayamo's Fiesta de la Cubania honors Cuban Culture Day each October 20, commemorating the 1868 liberation of Bayamo and the first public performance of La Bayamesa, later Cuba's national anthem, through citywide performances alongside the scholarly Crisol de la Nacionalidad gathering, reaching a recent thirty-first edition.
The Fiesta de la Cubania has run since 1994, created at the proposal of then Culture Minister Armando Hart Davalos, who called for an event defending Cuban national identity and culture through a combination of research findings and popular celebration staged in the very city where that identity was most dramatically forged.
