Parrandas de Caibarien in Caibarien
Caibarien's parrandas, adopted from nearby Remedios where the tradition began in 1892 and organized locally at the initiative of mayor Damian Judes inspired by musician Enrique Pardo, pit La Loma, wearing blue scarves under the rooster symbol, against La Marina, wearing red under the anchor symbol, a rivalry with roots in a 1930s social divide between parradistas and justistas, culminating each late December after a season announced from October 26, the town's founding anniversary.
Caibarien adopted the parranda tradition from nearby Remedios, where the celebration originated in 1892, with its proximity to Remedios making it one of the earliest towns to embrace this form of popular festivity.
