Parrandas de Encrucijada in Encrucijada
Encrucijada's parrandas, begun in 1913 by residents of Remedian origin and shifted from their original December 31 date to May 20 starting in 1948, pit barrios Chivos against Sapos through artistically elaborate floats and performances of changui, the eastern Cuban musical form, giving this town a distinctive spring date within Villa Clara's largely December-clustered parranda circuit.
Encrucijada's parrandas began in 1913, initiated by residents of Remedian origin living in the municipality who carried the tradition inland from its birthplace in nearby San Juan de los Remedios.
