Festival Internacional Fiesta del Tambor in Havana
Created in 2000 by musician Giraldo Piloto in honor of his uncle, percussionist Guillermo Barreto, and launched at the Havana jazz club La Zorra y El Cuervo, Fiesta del Tambor treats the drum as the connecting thread across Cuban music, with a landmark nineteenth edition honoring Los Munequitos de Matanzas, the Latin Grammy-winning rumba group, on their seventieth anniversary.
Musician Giraldo Piloto created the Fiesta del Tambor in 2000 to honor his uncle, the great Cuban percussionist Guillermo Barreto, launching the festival in the basement of the legendary Havana jazz club La Zorra y El Cuervo before it grew into an established, high-level fixture on Cuba's music calendar.
