Festival Internacional Varadero Josone

Festival Internacional Varadero Josone, running since its first 2018 edition inside the roughly nine-hectare Parque Josone, a private garden opened in 1942 by rum-distillery director Jose Fermin Iturrioz and named for himself and his wife Onelia, has grown into five editions billed as Jazz and Son, bringing Cuban music stars and international artists to Cuba's premier beach resort destination.

Parque Josone itself has a documented private history predating any festival: businessman Jose Fermin Iturrioz, director of the Arechavala rum distillery in Cardenas, purchased the land in the 1930s and opened the grounds in 1942, naming the roughly nine-hectare garden Josone by combining the first letters of his own name and that of his wife Onelia, around a natural lagoon ringed with palm trees.
