Parrandas de Zulueta in Zulueta
Zulueta's parrandas, arising around 1894 as the Remedios tradition spread across Villa Clara, are the only Cuban parranda festival celebrated across the turn of the calendar year, beginning the night of December 31 and ending in the early hours of January 1, contested between La Loma and Guanijibes, originally named Camajuani and Remedios, first facing off on December 24, 1894.
Zulueta's parrandas arose around 1894, roughly seventy-four years after the Parrandas de Remedios began in 1820, the celebration that spread outward to nearby towns including Caibarien, Camajuani and Zulueta across what is now Villa Clara province.
