Agros Rose Festival in Agros

Agros, a Troodos mountain village, stages a Rose Festival across two weekends each May built around Damascus roses introduced roughly a century ago by local teacher Nearchos Clerides. Visitors tour the village's rosewater factory, watch the distillation process explained on site, and sample rosewater, rose chocolates, liqueurs and creams from the village's roughly twenty-ton annual harvest.

A local schoolteacher and folklore researcher named Nearchos Clerides brought the Damascus rose to the mountain village of Agros at the start of the twentieth century and taught his fellow villagers how to cultivate it and distil rosewater from its petals, a transplanted crop that now defines the village's economy and identity closely enough that Agros produces roughly twenty tons of roses annually and stages a dedicated Rose Festival across two weekends every May.
