Kyperounta Apple Festival in Kyperounta
Kyperounta's Apple Festival, held the second weekend of October, celebrates the village's Kathista and Lortika apple varieties, unique to Cyprus, in a village that alone produces roughly a third of the country's apples and pears. Over twenty thousand visitors fill the cobblestone alleys for variety presentations, a tasting competition, photo exhibitions and market stalls selling fresh and processed apple products.
Two indigenous Cypriot apple varieties found nowhere else in significant quantity, Kathista and Lortika, anchor Kyperounta's Apple Festival, staged each year on the second weekend of October in a village sitting at an altitude between 1,130 and 1,300 metres that alone generates roughly one third of Cyprus's entire national apple and pear production.
