Platres Lavender Festival

Platres, known as the Lavender Village since British colonial administrators introduced the plant roughly a century ago, holds its Lavender Festival each July with a structured all-day musical programme, gastronomy workshops, a thirty-two-exhibitor market of handmade lavender cosmetics, candles, crafts and delicacies, children's activities, and herbalist-guided walks through the village's own lavender plantations.

British colonial administrators brought lavender to Cyprus roughly a century ago, planting it first specifically in Platres, a mountain village that had already become a colonial-era administrative centre and resort town in the cool Troodos hills, and that historical introduction now gives the village its own popular nickname, the Lavender Village, and an annual festival built entirely around the plant's continuing local presence.
