Polystypos Hazelnut Festival in Polystypos
Polystypos, an amphitheatrically built Pitsilia village at 1,100 metres, holds its hazelnut festival in August, organised by the local Orizontes Association, combining concerts, guided environmental walks through the village's distinctive multi-stemmed hazelnut forest, children's days and walking, running and cycling treasure hunts across the surrounding countryside.
Hazelnut trees that branch into as many as fifty separate stems from the ground rather than growing as a single trunk give Polystypos's hazelnut forest its distinctively dense, bush-like appearance, a landscape feature the village's Orizontes Association built its dedicated hazelnut festival around, timed to August when the shells containing the nuts separate easily from their leafy husks.
