Kmochuv Kolin in Kolín
Kmochuv Kolin has run since 1961, honouring composer and bandleader Frantisek Kmoch, who founded his first Kolin band in 1871 and whose more than 230 marches, still played at Czech village events today, are credited with sustaining national consciousness under Austro-Hungarian rule and German occupation. Now one of Central Bohemia's largest cultural events, the festival is also where majorette performance was first introduced to Czech brass band culture, by a visiting Dutch band in 1973.
Kmochuv Kolin, a festival of brass and wind bands, has run since 1961, but the tradition it celebrates reaches back much further, to composer and bandleader Frantisek Kmoch, who founded his first band in Kolin in 1871 and led its debut concert on May 15th, 1872.
