The story

Beats for Love in Ostrava

Beats for Love turns Ostrava's former Dolni Vitkovice ironworks into an electronic dance music festival each July, growing from 25,000 attendees across five stages in its 2013 debut to well over 150,000 across recent four-day editions with up to eighteen stages and more than 550 artists. It now ranks as the largest festival in the Czech Republic and Slovakia and one of Europe's biggest electronic music events.

Beats for Love began in 2013 in the same Dolni Vitkovice ironworks complex that hosts Colours of Ostrava, but built its identity around electronic dance music specifically: five stages, roughly two hundred artists and twenty-five thousand attendees in its debut year, a scale that already outpaced most new European festivals in their first edition.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Beats for Love's growth curve is exceptional even by festival standards: from 25,000 attendees in its 2013 debut to well over 150,000 across a four-day run within roughly a decade, a trajectory few European electronic festivals have matched

02

The mystery stays covered

Sharing the Dolni Vitkovice ironworks site with Colours of Ostrava gives it the same repurposed blast-furnace and factory-hall staging, though the two festivals run separately and serve distinct electronic-music and multi-genre crowds respectively

03

The city starts moving

Recent editions spanning more than twenty subgenres across up to eighteen stages give it a breadth within electronic music alone that most single-genre festivals do not attempt
