The story

Prague Half Marathon in Prague

Prague's half marathon debuted on March 13th, 1999, as the Kodak Prague Half Marathon with 718 runners through Stromovka Park. Now the Sportisimo Prague Half Marathon, it earned World Athletics Gold Label status after 2009 and has produced multiple world records, including the Czech Republic's first sub-hour half marathon, drawing close to nine thousand runners each spring.

Prague's half marathon started four years after its full-distance sibling, debuting on March 13th, 1999, as the Kodak Prague Half Marathon, with a route through Stromovka Park and 718 runners crossing the finish line; Ali Ezayedi of Libya won that first edition in just over an hour.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Gold Label Road Race status, held since 2009, places Prague's half marathon among the world's small elite tier of certified fast, well-organised courses, a status the full marathon does not carry in quite the same record-producing way

02

The mystery stays covered

The course has hosted multiple world records over the half marathon distance, including performances from Joyciline Jepkosgei, and delivered the Czech Republic's first-ever sub-hour half marathon time

03

The city starts moving

Its routing, flatter and more speed-focused than the full marathon's landmark-heavy course, is specifically built to produce fast times rather than maximise historic sightseeing along the way
