Prague Marathon in Prague
Prague's international marathon has run every May since 1995, when it began with 985 runners under an idea championed by organiser Carlo Capalbo and Czech running legend Emil Zatopek. The 42-kilometre course starts and finishes at Old Town Square, crosses the Vltava ten times over six bridges, and has included the medieval Charles Bridge since 1998.
The Prague International Marathon began in 1995 with 985 runners, an event born from a 1994 idea by race organiser Carlo Capalbo and backed by Czech running legend Emil Zatopek, whose name still carries weight in a country that treats distance running as something close to a national sport.
