Straznice International Folklore Festival in Strážnice

Straznice's folklore festival began in 1946 and has run every last weekend of June since, making it among Europe's oldest festivals of its kind. Its programme represents all eight Czech traditions on UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage list, including the Slovacky verbunk dance competition, and the town's National Institute of Folk Culture has served as a regional hub for UNESCO folklore preservation work since the 1990s.

Straznice's folklore festival held its first edition in 1946, the same period that saw the founding of the National Institute of Folk Culture, and it has run every last weekend of June since, making it by most accounts the oldest folklore festival of its kind in Europe.
