The story

Mighty Sounds in Tábor

Mighty Sounds began in 2005 in the village of Olsi near Oparany, relocating in 2010 to a former grass airfield in Tabor after 2009 flooding damaged its original site. Held each June, the ska and punk festival has drawn upward of twelve thousand attendees and built a two-decade booking history including Dropkick Murphys, Ska-P, Gogol Bordello and Suicidal Tendencies.

Mighty Sounds began in 2005 in the small village of Olsi near Oparany, a modest rural site that hosted the festival for its first five years before a serious weather event forced a change of venue.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Few Central European festivals maintain as consistent a genre focus over two decades as Mighty Sounds has within ska, punk and related styles, building a booking history of major international touring acts, Dropkick Murphys, Ska-P, Gogol Bordello and Suicidal Tendencies among them, without drifting toward a broader multi-genre format

02

The mystery stays covered

Its origin story includes a genuine environmental forcing event: heavy 2009 rain flooded the original Olsi village site so badly that the landowner would not renew the contract, pushing the festival to its current, more resilient former-airfield home in Tabor

03

The city starts moving

That relocation coincided with the festival's growth past twelve thousand attendees, making the move from a small rural site to a stable airfield venue a clear inflection point in its history
