Obscene Extreme in Trutnov
Obscene Extreme began in 1999 when founder Miloslav 'Curby' Urbanec staged it to celebrate his own twenty-fifth birthday, growing from a local grindcore, death metal and crust punk gathering at Trutnov's Battlefield venue into one of the genre's largest festivals worldwide. By the mid-2000s foreign visitors made up around seventy percent of the crowd, and across twenty-six years through 2025 the festival has hosted 1,258 bands, later expanding internationally with an Australian edition launched in 2013.
Obscene Extreme began in 1999 as Miloslav Urbanec's, known to friends as Curby, way of celebrating his own twenty-fifth birthday, an origin story unusually personal for a festival that would go on to become one of the largest gatherings of its kind anywhere in the extreme music world.
