The story

Barum Czech Rally Zlin in Zlin

Barum Rally began in 1971 in Gottwaldov, the Moravian town now known as Zlin, and has been part of the European Rally Championship since 1984, briefly counting for the Intercontinental Rally Challenge too between 2007 and 2012. Promoted since 2022 by WRC Promoter GmbH, the same body behind the World Rally Championship, the rally has been dominated in recent decades by home driver Jan Kopecky, who has won it ten times.

Barum Rally began in 1971 as an amateur competition in Gottwaldov, the name the Moravian town of Zlin carried until 1990, when the rally was folded into the Car Championship of Czechoslovakia the following year and drivers competed largely in Skoda 100, 110 and 120 models typical of the era's domestic motorsport scene.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Few European rallies can claim more than five decades of continuous competitive history under a name tied to a single tyre brand since 2002, nor a home driver as dominant as Jan Kopecky, whose ten victories at Barum Rally represent an unusually concentrated run of success at one event within top-tier European rallying

02

The mystery stays covered

Being promoted since 2022 by WRC Promoter GmbH, the same organisation behind the World Rally Championship's flagship events, places Barum Rally within the same promotional infrastructure as the sport's very top tier

03

The city starts moving

Its early history, including three wins by Norwegian driver John Haugland in the late 1970s, gives the event a genuinely international competitive pedigree dating back to the Communist era
