Copenhagen Opera Festival in Copenhagen
Copenhagen Opera Festival has run each August since 2009, mixing traditional staged productions with a deliberately public, street-level programme: a free open-air Festival Stage at Den Rode Plads in Norrebro, pocket-sized arias performed from rowing boats on the city's harbour and canals, and informal Cocktail Opera nights that blend bar karaoke with professional performance.
Since 2009, Copenhagen Opera Festival has taken the genre most associated with grand formal concert halls and pushed it deliberately out into the open: streets, canals and public squares across the city carry performances alongside the traditional theatres, over ten days each August.
