Nibe Festival in Nibe
Nibe Festival began in 1985 as a one-day concert tied to the UN's International Youth Year, staged on a block wagon at Nibe's Dyrskuepladsen showground, and has grown into a four-day July festival drawing more than 15,000 attendees to this historic Limfjord fishing port near Aalborg. Around 100 concerts across multiple stages span rock, pop, electronic and folk, with festival surplus reinvested into local culture.
The United Nations' decision to declare 1985 the International Youth Year gave Danish municipalities a reason to back new local youth initiatives, and in the small Limfjord port town of Nibe, that push produced a one-day concert on a block wagon stage at the Dyrskuepladsen showground that has since grown into one of Denmark's largest and longest-running regional music festivals.
