Festival Musical de Santo Domingo in Santo Domingo
Santo Domingo's Festival Musical, founded in 1997 by conductor Philippe Entremont and organized biennially by Fundacion Sinfonia, has held ten documented editions across two decades. Each features a specially assembled roughly 120-musician Festival Orchestra combining the National Symphony with invited players from orchestras across the United States and Europe.
French conductor and pianist Philippe Entremont originated the idea for a dedicated classical music festival in Santo Domingo, and the Fundacion Sinfonia launched the first Festival Musical de Santo Domingo in 1997, aiming to place the Dominican Republic on the world map of classical music.
