Maraton de Guayaquil in Guayaquil
Ecuador's first internationally certified marathon, first run on October 2, 2005, now an annual October race starting and finishing near the Puente 5 de Junio on Guayaquil's Malecón del Salado. Alongside the full 42.195-kilometer distance, the event includes a half marathon, 12-kilometer and 5-kilometer races and adapted categories, drawing thousands of participants and spectators to an early-morning course through the city.
The first Maratón de Guayaquil ran on October 2, 2005, and became the first marathon in Ecuador certified by international athletics authorities, a distinction that gave the race an official standing few other Ecuadorian road races held at the time.
