The story

Ecuador Jazz Festival in Quito

Ecuador Jazz, organized by the Fundacion Teatro Nacional Sucre, grew out of a 2004 merger of a formal international concert series and an open-air event called Jazz In Situ, and has run for more than two decades since. The festival combines ticketed evening concerts with free jam sessions, workshops and academic encounters, drawing touring international acts alongside Ecuadorian musicians.

Ecuador Jazz began in 2004 as a merger of two earlier, smaller events: a more formal international concert series also called Ecuador Jazz, and Jazz In Situ, which staged music in open public spaces and mixed the genre with other styles.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Ecuador Jazz carries a documented dual origin, the 2004 merger of a formal concert series and the more experimental, open-air Jazz In Situ, and it has kept both strands alive over twenty editions, mixing ticketed evening concerts with free jam sessions and workshops aimed at working musicians rather than only audiences

02

The mystery stays covered

Organized by the Fundacion Teatro Nacional Sucre inside a theater that opened in 1886, one of Latin America's oldest, the festival also spills into the historic center's plazas for open-air programming, giving it a format that spans formal concert hall and public street performance within a single edition rather than choosing one register
