Founded in 1992 by opera soprano and Cairo Opera House pioneer Ratiba El-Hefny, Arab Music Festival pairs concerts with an academic conference and art exhibitions across roughly two weeks. Performances extend beyond Cairo to Alexandria and Damanhour, centring on Arab classical repertoire including the Opera House's resident National Arab Music Ensemble.

Arab Music Festival was founded in 1992 by Ratiba El-Hefny, the Egyptian opera soprano who had served as the Cairo Opera House's first chairperson after the current building opened in 1988, and it remains organised under the Opera House's umbrella more than three decades later.
