Festival Nahuat Pipil in Nahuizalco/Izalco/Santo Domingo de Guzman
Festival Nahuat Pipil is a cultural celebration of Nahuat-Pipil language and heritage spanning three historically indigenous Sonsonate department towns, Nahuizalco, Izalco, and Santo Domingo de Guzman. Each town carries its own distinct saint's-day and communal traditions rooted in Pipil identity, though a single, independently confirmed program for a unified Festival Nahuat Pipil event was not located in this research pass.
Nahuizalco, Izalco, and Santo Domingo de Guzman are three towns in Sonsonate department, El Salvador, that share a common thread: all were historic centers of Pipil, Nahuat-speaking indigenous life in western El Salvador, and all suffered heavily during the 1932 Matanza, the state-led massacre that followed a peasant and indigenous uprising and devastated Pipil communities across the department.
