Fiestas Patronales de San Vicente in San Vicente
Fiestas Patronales de San Vicente fills the former colonial capital of El Salvador with barrio-organized celebrations each December, honoring San Vicente Abad y Martir. Each neighborhood or association claims one night of the month, spending the year raising funds for its turn, closing before dawn with a shared atol shuco breakfast.
San Vicente traces its origin to 1635, when Spanish, mestizo, mulatto, and Black families displaced from Apastepeque, Tepetitan, and Ixtepeque under colonial segregation rules founded a new settlement under a tempisque tree on the banks of the Acahuapa river.
