The story

Viru Folk in Kasmu

Viru Folk is a folk and world-music festival held each August in Kasmu, a former sea-captains' village inside Lahemaa National Park. Running since 2008, it has spotlighted the music and culture of a different country or region at each edition since 2013, drawing crowds of up to around 12,000 and twice earning the European Festivals Association's EFFE Label.

Viru Folk has spotlighted a different country or region's music at each edition since 2013, turning what began as a general folk festival into something closer to an annual cultural exchange, staged in the captain's village of Kasmu inside Lahemaa National Park.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Viru Folk's defining feature since 2013 is its rotating regional focus: each edition centers its programming on the music and culture of one specific country or people rather than mixing genres freely, giving repeat visitors a genuinely different festival each year

02

The mystery stays covered

The setting compounds this, staging concerts inside a small, preserved former sea-captains' village on the Lahemaa National Park coastline rather than a generic festival field

03

The city starts moving

The event has received the European Festivals Association's EFFE Label twice, in 2015 and 2017, one of relatively few Baltic festivals to hold the distinction more than once
