Tartu Maraton, Estonia's oldest and largest cross-country ski marathon, has run since 1960 and become part of the Worldloppet series since 1994. Held on the third Sunday of February, the modern 63-kilometre course runs from Otepaa to Elva, with 1986 participation of nearly 10,000 finishers standing as an unmatched record.

Tartu Maraton traces back to 1960, when Rein Tikk won the inaugural race in three hours and twenty-seven minutes over a 55-kilometre course covered by 210 skiers, making it Estonia's oldest and most significant cross-country ski marathon.
