Hamina Tattoo in Hamina
Hamina Tattoo, established in 1990 as the official military tattoo of the Finnish Defence Forces, stages choreographed military band performances within the historic Hamina Fortress, its main venue since 1998. Held every second year in July or August, the event has drawn military bands from countries as diverse as Russia, the United States, China, Turkey, and India.
Hamina Tattoo traces its origin to an idea first floated in the early 1980s within Hamina's own tourist service, which eventually led to the event's formal establishment in 1990 as the official military tattoo of the Finnish Defence Forces, a status that ties the festival directly to Finland's armed forces rather than functioning as an independently organized music event.
