Ruka Nordic in Kuusamo/Ruka
Ruka Nordic, held each late November in Kuusamo, combines ski jumping, cross-country skiing, and Nordic combined World Cup competitions in one weekend, traditionally opening the international cross-country skiing season. Continuously hosted since the 2002-03 season, the event has reached its twenty-fifth modern edition, drawing elite skiers to a forested Arctic setting for the season's first major test of form.
Ruka, a ski resort area in Kuusamo near Finland's northeastern border, first hosted a Nordic skiing World Cup event in the 1996-97 season, and from the 2002-03 season onward it became a fixed annual fixture on the international calendar, typically opening the FIS cross-country skiing World Cup season each year in late November.
