Pori Jazz, founded in 1966 on the Kirjurinluoto island with about fifteen hundred attendees, has grown into one of Europe's largest and longest-running jazz festivals, now running nine days and drawing well over a hundred thousand visitors. Its permanent Lokki stage, completed in 1974, anchors decades of performances, and programming has broadened well beyond jazz to include blues, soul, pop, and rock.

Pori Jazz began in July 1966 as a two-day event on the Kirjurinluoto island with around fifteen hundred attendees, modest beginnings for what has since grown into one of the largest and longest-running jazz festivals in Europe.
