Crusell Music Festival in Uusikaupunki
Crusell Music Festival has run in Uusikaupunki each summer since 1982, honoring clarinetist-composer Bernhard Henrik Crusell with woodwind-focused chamber concerts and masterclasses in flute, oboe, clarinet and bassoon. Visiting professionals both perform and teach during the same week, giving the festival a working, hands-on character. It suits travelers with a specific interest in woodwind music rather than general orchestral programming.
Crusell Music Festival honors Bernhard Henrik Crusell, the clarinetist and composer born in Uusikaupunki in 1775, whose clarinet concertos remain his best-known works and give the festival its instrumental focus on woodwind music.
