La Route du Rock in Saint-Malo
La Route du Rock, created in 1991 by Rennes-based association Rock Tympans and named after the transatlantic Route du Rhum sailing race from Saint-Malo, runs two annual editions since 2006: a Summer Collection each August and a Winter Collection each February, staged partly at the historic Fort de Saint-Pere. Building a reputation for alternative and indie programming, past lineups have included Sonic Youth, Portishead, PJ Harvey, The Cure and My Bloody Valentine.
La Route du Rock was created in 1991 by the Rennes-based association Rock Tympans, through a collaboration between festival director Francois Floret and Saint-Malo concert organizer Ludovic Renaud, taking its name as a deliberate reference to the Route du Rhum, the famous transatlantic sailing race that starts from Saint-Malo bound for Guadeloupe.
