Jazz a Vienne in Vienne
Jazz a Vienne, founded in 1981, stages its main concerts inside Vienne's nearly two-thousand-year-old Roman Theatre Antique, giving the festival an acoustic and visual setting unmatched by most jazz festivals worldwide. Running roughly two weeks each late June and July, it spans jazz's full range from swing to fusion and contemporary styles, supplemented by free daytime and outdoor performances throughout Vienne for visitors without tickets to the main Roman theatre shows.
Jazz a Vienne was founded in 1981 and has run every year since in Vienne, a town south of Lyon built on the banks of the Rhone and home to one of France's best-preserved Roman theatres, the Theatre Antique, which the festival uses as its primary and most atmospheric performance venue.
