The story

Night Serenades International Festival in Tbilisi and Batumi

Founded in 1982 by violinist and conductor Liana Isakadze, Night Serenades is Georgia's longest continuously associated classical music festival, now staged as the Batumi-Tbilisi International Festival across the Black Sea coast and the capital each late summer into autumn. Its resident Virtuosos orchestra performs canonical repertoire alongside premieres of new Georgian compositions.

Night Serenades traces back to 1982, founded in Abkhazia by Liana Isakadze, a Georgian violinist and conductor whose international career gave the festival access to touring classical musicians from its earliest years, making it the longest continuously associated classical music festival in the country's modern history.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Few classical festivals combine a Black Sea seaside concert setting with a decades-long, internationally connected history the way Night Serenades does, tracing back to a single founder, violinist Liana Isakadze, whose Virtuosos orchestra has toured as far as London, New York and Switzerland for charity concerts

02

The mystery stays covered

Its specific commitment to premiering new works by contemporary Georgian composers alongside standard classical repertoire gives it a living-composition dimension many heritage classical festivals do not maintain
