Deichbrand Festival in Cuxhaven

Deichbrand began in 2005 as a small gathering of about five hundred people at Fort Kugelbake near Cuxhaven and has grown into one of northern Germany's largest rock festivals, now drawing more than sixty thousand visitors to the Cuxhaven/Nordholz sea-airport grounds. The multi-stage, multi-day festival centres on rock and metal with room for emo, pop and hip-hop acts, set on flat, open coastal terrain shaped by North Sea weather.

Founders Marc Engelke and Daniel Schneider staged the first Deichbrand at Fort Kugelbake, at the northernmost point of Lower Saxony near Cuxhaven, on a single day in September 2005, drawing an audience of around five hundred people to what was then a small regional gathering built around rock and metal music.
